Tide Lines Biography
Tide Lines are a four-piece band based in Glasgow who are heavily influenced by the traditional music of their native Highlands and Islands, but whose highly eclectic sound is driven by acoustic and electric guitars, with drums and keyboards. The band consists of Robert Robertson from Lochaber (vocals/guitar), Ross Wilson from the Island of Mull (keyboards/piano), Alasdair Turner from Alness (electric guitar/bagpipes), and Fergus Munro from Glasgow (drums).
Tide Lines first emerged in the summer of 2016 with the release of their debut single, Far Side of the World - an upbeat and dynamic love song written by lead vocalist, Robert Robertson.
This launch was marked with a live performance at Tiree Music Festival which sparked a run of successful shows including their own sold-out tour of the Western Isles followed by an appearance in Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, alongside Sharon Shannon for the fi-nale of the Blas Festival.
There followed a year of hard work touring, writing, and recording; and (by the summer of 2017) Tide Lines were ready to release their debut album. Dreams We Never Lost was released on Friday 1st June 2017. By the following day, while the band were onstage performing the album’s material at Oban Live, it was rapidly rising to number 14 in the iTunes UK download charts, and was subsequently trending on Apple Music.
Musically, the album follows in the footsteps of the single - enhanced by guest musicians including Anthony Thistlethwaite, founding member of The Waterboys and current mem-ber of The Saw Doctors. Lyrically, the original songs deal with the connection between youth and location and, in particular, the historic relationship between the band’s native Highlands and Islands and their resident city of Glasgow. The album also includes two Gaelic songs and a bass-driven pipe set.
Throughout the second half of 2017, the band have toured Dreams We Never Lost around numerous festivals including The Hebridean Celtic Festival, Tiree Music Festival, Lorient Interceltique Festival, Speyfest, Eilean Dorcha Festival, Killin Music Festival, Northern Roots, Best of the West Festival, The Cowal Gathering, and Trelawnyd Folk at the Hall.
