Charlie McKerron Trio Biography

Charlie McKerron Trio

Normally heard within the heavyweight line-ups of Capercaillie and Session A9, the great Scottish fiddler Charlie McKerron sometimes likes to strip things back to their essence, in company with just a couple of close musical pals. It’s definitely a case of less is more with this trio, though, spotlighting all the glories of McKerron’s artistry - intoxicating jigs and reels, exquisite slow airs, outstanding original compositions - allied with supremely sensitive, seasoned guitar work (plus the occasional gem of a song), from fellow Highlander Marc Clement (Blazin’ Fiddles, Session A9). Charlie and Marc work with a small pool of leading contemporary instrumentalists and kindred spirits, including guitarist/accordionist Tim Edey and piper Ross Ainslie, collectively optimising the extra freedom and space created by the trio format.

Charlie McKerron Trio reviews

“‘This stellar three-piece elicited as much variety, drama and multi-layered colour from the interplay between them as from the tunes themselves’” Scotsman
