Breabach Biography

Having closed 2019 by winning the coveted BBC Scotland Tradiitonal Music album of the year, the band were looking forward to a busy 2020.

2020 marks a very special year in the life of Scottish folk favourites Breabach, as it is their 15th anniversary. Throughout those 15 years Breabach have always looked to acknowledge and respect the origins of both the music they play and the roots of the band whilst embracing the future with new ideas, energy and belief. It is these key attributes, combined with hard work and talent, that has seen them develop into one of Scotland’s most exciting and successful folk groups. With 6 albums under their belt, a multitude of awards and a consistently full touring schedule, quite literally across the world, they look perfectly set to continue to build upon their successes.

Kicking off the celebrations with a headline appearance as part of Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival, the band have also teamed up with Glenturret whisky who have distilled a single cask 15 year old malt – “Breabach”. Heading straight out to Australia to play a Burns Night special in the Sydney Opera House on 25th January, the band are joined by Australian performers and celebrities for a special show. Celebrations continued with a UK wide tour through February and March before the world became a very different place.

In the mean-time Breabach wish all of you safe and healthy times and hope to see you in 2021/22.

Breabach reviews

“As polished as it was passionate, matching fiery intensity with exquisite finesse, this was a magnificent set.” The Scotsman
“Tempos are often exhilarating, & the ensemble interplay is fiery. The colours & textures are beautifully layered but spaciously uncluttered lending the Breabach sound a depth & definition that only strengthens its impact.” Songlines
